Shape and Texture

Task and Aim

Explore the potential of hand made textures/ papers and cutting tools as an immediate way of generating shape and texture.
Produce 12 shape driven images.

Texture can function within image making in a number of ways including:

  • Complimenting shape
  • Creating tone and light
  • Harmonising composition
  • Softening hardened forms
  • Improving the economy of limited colours
Intentions

To discover how texture can enhance images, and experiment with the combination of texture and shape.

Evaluation of Outcomes

From the last task I challenged myself to invest more time into exploring different methods and using a wider range of skills, and a higher level of intricacy. Creating the textures opened my eyes to how I could intertwine them into each image to complement the narrative within each picture. Having an extended period of time made me feel less pressured to rush each picture especially as paper crafting requires a lot of patience and time, however I won't allow this to make me become complacent.

Visual Research- I looked more into the sports from a spectators perspective, including as much information as possible for the viewer. I looked at the olympic 'google doodles' for inspiration, and also action photographs from the olympics.

Problem Analysis- My communication of the task was much clearer than last weeks. The way I have worked has exaggerated the tangible senses within the images which has harmonised the composition.

Visual Variation-I experimented to quite a good level without crossing the boundary to collage, and discovered how visually pleasing texture can make an image.

Professionalism and Presentation- My work is presented in a way which is easy to follow and shows my ideas and thought processes.
