Mega Crit

Today we had a crit with the animation students of all of the work that we had produced so far on our individual briefs. Admittedly, I hadn't produced as much work as I'd have hoped to for this module so far, so only had two very minimalistic boards to present.

Looking at people's work who have chosen the same briefs as I have was really helpful and inspiring to gain an insight into their perspectives and production methods. In particular, I loved looking at the different covers of A Clockwork Orange, as it is often so cliche to illustrate an orange and a few cogs, but seeing different metaphorical interpretations has really widened my perspective about how to tackle the brief.

It was useful to see what the animators had produced too, with the collaborative project in mind I saw a few pieces of work that I thought could work really well with mine.

I was really surprised to receive such a positive level of feedback from my two rather dismal presentation boards! Especially the popularity of the digital illustrations, as I have not had a lot of practice at that process therefore am lacking in confidence. From the feedback, I have gathered that my main strengths lie within:

  • Stylistic flexibility
  • Fun concepts
  • Good digital work

Productivity Plan

I desperately need to get a wiggle on with this module! I will firstly try and complete my substantial brief of the three book covers whilst simultaneously working on the smaller briefs. Once I have completed my work for 504, I will be able to allocate a lot more time into working towards my responsive briefs.
