Monoprint Workshop

Monoprinting is a form of printmaking that has images or lines that can only be made once, unlike most printmaking where there are multiple originals.

The aim of today was to create some textures and images that could possibly enhance our GIF making.

The colours of ink that were set out included the primary colours; red, yellow and blue. These were in the hope that we would be able to mix colours and create some more interesting shades.

We then made stencils to print onto; I made a bicycle and a giraffe in accordance with my giraffe on a bike GIF; however I soon realised that these shapes were too complex. It would have been a lot easier to work with more simplistic shapes than specific shapes.

I am absolutely terrible at printing. I can never seem to grasp the concept of the process in general. I really struggled to experiment fully because I was afraid of doing something wrong, but in actual fact, that is what I was doing wrong.

My prints looked very basic and didn't show an appropriate level of experimentation. I would have been a lot more successful if I'd have created some more simple stencils and played around with position, colour and line.
