Testing Out Movement

The first GIF I am thinking of tackling is 'Man Boob Man'. In order to complete this successfully I decided to test out other associated movements of his moobs before animating his whole body.

Practical Skills

Using a lightbox, I created several frames of his moobs swinging from side to side. This technique helped me because I was able to use the previous image each time to see where to place the next frame of movement.

In photoshop I used the magnetic lasso tool to cut out the shape of the man to make the image sharper, which is more difficult when incorporating the whole picture space each time.

Similar to the lightbox, I used the opacity tool with the layers to see where the most appropriate place to position the next figure would be to give the illusion of movement.

The finished GIF:

This finished GIF is more efficient than the previous ones I have made in the fact that it is clearer and more focused into the subject matter than the first attempts.

Problem Analysis

Although I used a lightbox, using a sketchbook to base the images around increased the duration of the task resulting in me becoming impatient. The movement is more fluid, but in places appears to look more static. My aim was for just the moobs to move side to side, but due to the figure being inaccurately calibrated, it gives the illusion of him shuffling forward ever so slightly.

Problem Solving

To smoothen out the movement of the figure I will invest more time into the crafting of the frames, and if I use paper squares instead of my sketchbook this will increase both productivity and my patience.

Conceptual Development

In further development of Man Boob Man I will practice other combined movements, including him jumping up and down, and his moobs swinging in front of him which will eventually combine the full movement of him skipping with his moobs.
I also must test out different media when my technical skills are at a good standard.
