Greetings From... Ideas, Thumbnails and Crit

To start my planning, I plotted my ideas down by creating a mind map of possible themes to base my postcards on.

DOWNFALL: I left my roughs until the last minute again (when will I learn) so I didn't exhaust my ideas visually which would have been helpful in my conceptual development.

However I did manage to come up with some substantial ideas based upon my initial thoughts:

  • A couple going on a biking holiday through Europe and experiencing different scenery and events specific to different cities and their traditions
  • Different cities specific animals, and scenarios/scenery celebrating what the city is well known for
  • Bicycles specific to particular cities (a terrible idea)

Crit

In a peer review crit we all discussed our thumbnail sketches, progress and potential ideas for our postcards. Surprisingly my group were impressed with my ideas and gave my scope for areas in which I could develop.

I was more swayed to the bicycle journey idea, but my group seemed to like my animal and city concept as it had greater potential.

I could focus on developing each character and trying to have as little detail as possible in the background; then it becomes less generic by relying on landmarks to identify the city.

They also suggested that I try layering colour in adobe illustrator to create a more interesting composition, as well as carrying out secondary research into these animals, looking into different cities and their football logos to identify and potentially produce a wider range of characters.
