Greetings From...Manchester

Practical Skills

Starting production on the first postcard was pretty daunting, but I began by marking out the dominant lines in the piece.

Creating the boat shape was probably the most challenging part of constructing the image. In hindsight I might have benefited a lot more if I would have traced an image of a boat, however this combination of shapes I have constructed myself has been quite successful.

Problem Analysis

I really found it difficult to get to grips with the anchor tools and creating handles in the appropriate places, and was getting so frustrated with the boat!

Problem Solving

To save stressing even further I asked for some advice from one of my classmates and she helped me distinguish how many clicks you have to do if you want to move a point or create a curve.

To save creating a complex shape around the boat to represent the water, I just created a straight lined simple shape over the boat, and sent it to the back of the image.

I then decided to add some Lowry style chimneys in the background of the image, and some further detail in the foreground by adding some decorative flower pots to the boat. These aren't just meaningless; alternating flower pots have the team colours of the two major football teams in Manchester, united and city.

Creating the bee character

I was a little stuck when it came to the shape of the boots, so I decided to trace an image of some boots and add my own colour and detail.
